Women on Board

Promotion and equal opportunities for women in the maritime labour market

Background

Women are often underrepresented in the maritime world. This limits their career opportunities and reduces the potential for growth and innovation in these areas. The Women on Board project was therefore launched to promote and advance equal opportunities for women in sectors such as shipping, port operations, fisheries and maritime energy.

Vision

The goal of Women on Board is to strengthen the representation of women in the maritime industry by developing and sharing strategies for overcoming gender imbalance.

Goals

Promote young talent: Develop targeted programs to attract more women to maritime training and careers.

Enable careers: Empower women to advance professionally and attain leadership positions.

Improve working conditions: Improve safety and family-friendliness at sea and ashore through binding standards.

Strengthen diversity: Reduce discrimination and create a modern image for the industry through visible role models and active measures.

Pool knowledge: Identify best practices through Europe-wide cooperation and establish them across the industry.

Ensure participation: Actively involve women in the design of all support measures and programs.

Partners
