The German-Dutch cooperation project Young Maritime Talents officially started on 1 October 2025 and will run until 30 September 2028. The total investment volume of the project amounts to around €2.33 million. Of this, a total of around €1.68 million will be provided by EU funds from the Interreg VI A programme Germany-Netherlands. The funding is co-financed by the provinces of Flevoland, Fryslân and Groningen, as well as the Lower Saxony State Chancellery.
Background
The German-Dutch project ‘Young Maritime Talents’ aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in the maritime industry and prepare them for the professional demands of the future. The goal of the consortium, consisting of ten partners and a large number of associated partners from across the border, is to develop strategies and measures to attract, develop and retain young talent for the industry in the long term. This is to be achieved in particular by strengthening maritime career guidance, actively facilitating suitable practical contacts and promoting relevant future skills.
The broad spectrum of perspectives and competencies of the project partners offers great potential for this. The participation of innovative companies from shipping, shipbuilding, fisheries, port and offshore industries ensures comprehensive industry coverage.
The project is aimed at all stakeholders in the field of (pre-)vocational orientation and the career entry phase, i.e. from school to training or study to the company: from Young Maritime Talent to Young Maritime Professional.
Goals
- Developing strategies and measures to get young people excited about the maritime industry and prepare them for the professional demands of the future, so that young talent can be nurtured and retained in the industry.
- Strengthening maritime career guidance by actively promoting suitable practical contacts and through increased cooperation between education and business stakeholders.
- Positive impact on the most effective and sustainable maritime labour market possible in the German-Dutch border region, as well as improved access to high-quality training opportunities and jobs in the industry.
